ABOUT STREAMS & VALLEYS

Founded in 1969, Streams & Valleys began as a community effort to reconnect Fort Worth to the Trinity River after decades of neglect and devastating flooding. Over the past five decades, the organization has helped transform the river into the heart of the city by advocating for preservation, developing parks and public spaces, and supporting more than 120 miles of Trinity Trails that connect 31 neighborhoods and 21 parks.

In addition to building trails and trailheads, Streams & Valleys has helped bring some of Fort Worth’s most iconic riverfront amenities to life, including the Phyllis Tilley Memorial Bridge, Clearfork Mainstreet Pedestrian Bridge, and Streams & Valleys Plaza. Today, the organization continues to invest in beautification, trail enhancements, environmental stewardship, and projects that strengthen all Fort Worth communities.

As a nonprofit partner and convener for the Trinity River, Streams & Valleys works alongside the City of Fort Worth, TRWD, community organizations, and generous donors committed to creating a beautiful, safe, and healthy river corridor.

What We Do

Streams & Valleys is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization inspiring our greater Fort Worth community to protect, enhance, and celebrate the Trinity River and Trails, ensuring they remain a vital resource for recreation, beauty, and connection for generations to come.

Protect

The Trinity River is Fort Worth’s largest natural asset and protecting it requires long-term community investment. We advocate to protect the river, ensuring it’s a healthy ecosystem for people and animals. We also educate the community about the importance of the Trinity River, its history, and the benefits it brings to our community, both mentally and physically. This includes interpretive signage, community events, and environmental education in schools.

Enhance

Streams & Valleys develops and improves parks, trails, trailheads, bridges, and public spaces that make the Trinity River more accessible to everyone. With more than 1 million visits to the Trinity Trails system each year, these spaces play an important role in the health, recreation, and quality of life of our community. From major capital projects to everyday amenities like benches, bike stations, landscaping, and water fountains, we create welcoming spaces where people can gather, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors.

Celebrate

Through events including the annual Trinity Flyfest and The Trail Run, we bring thousands of people to the river and parks for fishing, recreation, and environmental education, and even release nearly 3,000 native fish species into the river. We host events throughout the year both on and off the river, so be sure to stay connected through our membership and email list for the latest updates and opportunities.
